It is also widely depicted as the Feast of Saint Valentine, in whose honor the festival is celebrated; and also commercially as the celebration of love and affection.

Socrates (469/470-399 BCE) was a greek philosopher and is considered the father of western philosophy. He was the son of poor parents, his father being a sculptor and his mother a midwife.

When we look at the method of Socrates through the dialogues , Socrates wanted to discover people’s views on living a moral , just life.Socrates urged people to question what they are being told , as well as their beliefs – question everything.Socrates , himself , learned through this process and developed his own philosophy from this method.

philosophy can be expressed briefly in the statement "virtue is knowledge." Virtues, he taught, are acquired through a fulfillment of the purpose for which one exists and he believed that philosophy should achieve practical results for the greater well-being of society. He attempted to establish an ethical system based on human reason rather than theological doctrine.

MY BROTHER IS MY HERO

My brother is the most influential person in my life. His name is jame and he is 24 years old, leaving a 5 year gap in between the two of us.He is the medical student in university of jafna. Ya i hope he will be become a good docter.

He is the best in the world.He  is the Greatest person I know.He is unique, honest, friendly and intelligent. He is always pleasing, kind hearted and open minded to others. His ability to pass on positive energy to those whom he deals with is amazing. He has supported me and cheered me through all my problems.So i like and love him so deeply as to see him always happy and smiling at any cost.

I love fighting with him now because i have realized that's the essence of our relationship.No matter how much we fight over thigs but deep down be both love each other deeply.Best friends can read each others’ minds. But only brothers can feel each others’ hearts.

Dear brother… in my life, many people have come and gone. But you, have been there all along.I love him so much there's no words that describe it.For this and several other reasons I consider my brother as my hero.

SIGIRIYA

Sigiriya

Sigiriya is a one of the famous and most attractive place in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya means lion’s rock.Sigiriya is situated in Dambulla in the District of Matale. People go to Sigirya everyday to climb this huge rock. This rock is very steep. It is about 600 feet high.

Sigiriya  is a unique place and it is famous for mirror wall and frescoes. The frescoes are pictures of women and nobody knows who did these nice paintings. Since from the ancient time visitors have scribbled verses on the mirror wall. It is said that most of these verses are about frescoes. The most ancient inscriptions are dated from the 8th century.On the top of the mountain there is a foot print. Buddhists believe it is the foot print of Lord Buddha.

Lower Sigiriya , was part of a sprawling garden complex adorned by large lotus pools. The surrounding territories of Sigiriya were inhibited for several thousand years.Sigiriya was a fortress of King Kashyapa.

There is a wonderful staircase leading to it, through the mouth of a big lion. This lion is carved out of stone. So it's called Singhagiri. Sigiriya provides evident for the great technologies in ancient Sri Lanka.King Kashyapa made this to protect himself against his enemies. King Kashyapa ruled Anuradhapura from this fortress for 18 years. Several ponds are located in the top of the Sigiriya.

It has a huge tourist attraction It attracts thousands of visitors each year.It is considered as one of the most beautiful sights in the word/ Sri Lanka.For many years it was not recognized as an important place but after Prince Charles visited recently many people began to go there.It is a colossal structure built around 1850. Though the building cannot be used any more, it has a historic value.So that, we should preserve this place for the future generation

Now-a-days Sigiriya is a very famous place worldwide. It has become one of the wonders of the world.

SUMMERY OF IN THE GIFT OF THE MAGI

O.hentry was born on september 11,1862, in Greensbora north carolina. He was an America writer whose short stories are known for wit, wordplay and clever twist ending. He wrote nearly 600 stories about life in America for example from his stories are after twenty years, the green door, the punished room, the service of love and the gift of magi.

In the gift of magi by o.hentry we have the theme of poverty, frustration, connection, struggle, love, sacrifice, anxiety and commitment. Set in the new york at the turn of the twentieth century the story is narrated and from the begining of the reader realises that henry may be exploring the theme of poverty or hardship.

When we look at the story there are two main characters. They are Della and Jim. The new wedded couple living under the poverty line. The wife Della saves money little day to buy the chrismas gift for her husband without knowing Jim. At the same time Jim also decided to buy a gift for his wife suprisly but their monthly income is not enough to buy a gift for each other.

So Della had an idea, she offers to sell her hair. She has a long beautiful hair. She decided to sell her long hair to buy a gift. Then she decided until now he has been using an old leather strap.

She prepares dinner for the always, punctual Jim and sits down to await his arrival. The precious gift is tightly clutched in her hand. Hoping that her husband will still love her. Jim came and opened to door sees Della, he was shocked and suprised. When he saw Dell's hair he feels in lot and had full of pain in his heart, Jim cannot seem to be persvaded that her hair is really gone. She begs him for her sake and comfort him that how fast her hair grows.

But the tears come from his eyes because of her hair cut and the other thing is he has sold his watch and bought a set of combs for her lovely wife Della. Even as she has sold her hair to buy the watch chain for him.

So,we can understand from this story that they both sacrificed their greatest treasures for their divine love.

The common definition of the drugs a medicine which as a physychology effect when introduce into body. There are many variety of drugs in the society such as beer, whisky, abin, ganja, heroin, cigarettes and other smoking things.

Human beings are mostly effected by drugs. Nowerdays this is the big issuue in a world. World wide most of the children and teenagers addict by drugs. People who are bad effect about the drugs. After using but they did not consider about that when we use the drugs we'll face huge of problems in physically, mentally, economically and socially.

In this world drugs are become common and big problems because of that statistic record. Say most of the people lost their life by this bad habbit.

We must prevent our society from this bad habbit. If we don't protect our society. If will loss our society and world also.

First of all we make awareness about effect of drugs throug street dramas, semenars, notices, handouts, advertisement ect... the goverment also take some project against the drugs Such as increase the price of drugs, some fines against drug uses. Several punishment for drug users even sealer, follow strict rules. Normally when we watch the television in drug scene we can see some warning scene and advertisement below the screen and also in cigarette packets we can see some fearful pictures.

Today especially school children, university student and college students also involve in this drug use. So we must so that places and we make some awarness programmes against drugs. It is all are our responsible our society.

Modern invention/modern technology have introduced considerble changes in almost all walk of life. Yet the journey of innovation and invention are growing very quickly. But there are lot of benefits we can get at the same time it makes our lives tragery.

First lets see the benifits what here are we can findout. Major benifits is it made our live very easy and we can able to save our time. Those days we met big trouble to go from one place to another place. We could not contact our relation in a single minutes. Conducting people was big task but this technology world made easy.

Another major field is medical specially in medical we can get all facilities in a single minutes. We can identify our disease easily and treat it soon. There are lot of technical instrumrnts are using in this field. For example xray machine, scanning machine, surgery instuments.

Then in present days we can't live without AC in our home. And we all use washing machine, cooker, microwave,  refrigrator, television and act. These began as our domestic things. It helps to work easily.

Our education is also getting many uses by this technology. It help to students to get information from online, network connection. And there are lot of facilities came to teach them too. Multimedia, projector help for teaching purpose.
So education system also becomes to many changes. There are online distance learning getting most important and also it help to get job.

And let see what are the trugeries are becoming by this field.when people get single disease they try to go to hospital to take medicine. It gives bad side effects to them. They could not see their physical health themselves.

Modern cultures began by this modern technology. It is completely destroyed our culture and society. It will effect our future generation too.

Using cellphones and bluetooth phone give us ear problem and many other harmful diseases.modern technology made our lifestyle easy. So we could do all in a couple of minutes. And also fast food item also came to reduce our life. And also we don't do even single excercise. So it is the biggest problem  in these days.

SMALL STORY

 STORY

I was sitting in the train the train was ready to move many people got into the train. The train was starting to move at that time old man and young girl together coming toward the train. The train has started moving little faster the old man and the young girl walking fast toward the train to get in at that time i suddently was watching them by side at that young beautiful girl and oldman to come into train. In her first look i found that she was very frightened and tension mind with most excitement but that oldman looked liked quite, sharp wise mind, i gave my near seats to them to sit.

At first i did not speak with them. In a few minutes she had started to hike up then i gave a bottle of water to her. She got it and thanked me from then we started to talk friendly.

Suddently i felt my previous life ten years ago i was with my parents with lots of happiness handful joyous and we always went for long journey like that one winter morning i and my family had planned to go colombo but unfortunately my sister and father fell in sick. They had sudden fever. Any how we coudn't miss this journey so we went then we entered the train station. Then i went to take water.

It was just far from station but suddently the train she gave me a touch in my hand and watch my wrist watch. Then she suprised! And called me brother. I could not understand anything more because i shocked! And she told me all my previous days happenings and then i found lost hearts of mine. Yes your guessing is right exactly they are my sister and father. ☺😊☺😊!!!!!

TSUNAMI

Natural disasters happen all over the world, and they can be utterly devastating for people’s lives and the environments in which they live.Examples include earthquakes, cyclones, storms, floods, drought, bush/ forest fire, avalanches etc.

Natural disasters are natural events that cause the loss of lives and property. Sometimes hundreds and thousands are killed, and millions of dollars of property are destroyed. Even the economy of the place which faces a natural disaster, gets effected.

Recently our experience has recorded a dangerous  natural disasters.We can't forget the date of 2004.12.26. The sea came to the village. Our relation and properties went to the sea,yes the tsunami was anemy for us. When the tsunami was happen the people ran without knowing what to do.

All the people gathered in many public place. They recieved many kinds of  humanitarian aids such as meals and dress. The goverment and GNO-S starded tsunami contruction works. Broken houses were build however they never did for broken hard.

"Women are eyes of the country". In the modern world women have same rights like a male party. They have growen that much of levels. They are participating in different kinds of occupations now a days the women are providing " they can do anything in the world".such as the gueen elishabath ruled a so many number of colonies as a lonely women. In the political side 1st prime minister in the world who is the srilankan citytion srimavo bandaranayake likewise former president chandirika B.kumarathunke.

In other hand some of the women are wondering to find the job because of their poverty. So they have to decided to go to abroad. It is very help ful for increasing GNP of the country. In the other hand it has many bad effects.

First of all i will explain about problems of to go to abroad the women who are married. If they are go to abroad so many problems will be arised like wise husbends feel alone. If he is alone it is motivate him to seek another women. So that their children have been as a orphan. Their education and telents will be spoiled. These are the children will be misguidee the society.

Then the women who is in abroad facing so many kind of difficulties they are wondering alone to seek job, they facing language problem also ghe women are some times disapointed by agents.

Then we will see about the unmarried girls. These are the citizen who are in abroad. They are forced for sexual harashment by employers. For example aaryavathi she is a srilankan citizen was injured by 101 neels.

Then after some of the goverment forced the women to go to abroad to increase the GNP of the counrty. So some of the children also have to go abroad cheeting the goverment rules.

So the goverment must consider about to give job opportunities to women. Our goverment took step to prevent this problem. According to that our goverment introduced " Divinegeguma planing system in srilanaka". We are as a volententeiers we must informed about these effects to other in our society.

WAR

WAR IN SRILANKA

The war was for three decards in srilanka. Sevaral people were killed in the war. They lost their properties they were unable to continue their education. We were unable to travel without fearing. We were always hearing the voice of gun. All the people suffering without food. The weapon spoke with the school children. The children who liked to get the pen got the weapons. Two parties were fighting but innocent people were being killed in this war has printed unforgetten records in our country.

The three decards war has been finished now. We are breathing the peaceful air now. Our country is travalling on freedom way. We eat and sleep without fearing. We are able to continuve our education without problem. The paddy fields are grown all parts of the country. The tourism industry is developing after complation the war. Contruction work have been started in all parts of country as a result the longest bring of srilanka has been build in kinniya. If this situation continuve our country will be added in the list of develop country.

Trees are our friends

OUR LIFE IS DEPENDENT UPON TREES

Trees are our friends because they play an important role of daily and long time needs.There is a long association of man and trees. It’s not really so hard to think that without trees life would be terminated at the blink of the eye.Trees provide us fruits and food, trees provide us spices which we use in cooking. Fruits are a good source of nutrients and vitamins and they stop soil erosino,mudslide,flood,famine and starration.

They mainly help to bring enough rain. They are the main source of providing pure oxgyen to breath and healthu living. They use sunlight to convert water and carbon-dioxide into oxygen and carbohydrates. We need oxygen for our survival.

Trees play a great role in lessening summer’s devastating heat.On windy and winter seasons, trees can act as windbreaks. A windbreak can lower home heating bills, and have an effect on reducing snow drifts. A reduction in drying soil & vegetation can be lessened by windbreaks.

Another benefit from trees is that is can actually clean soil & water around their area.They stand as shaders. The barks,flowers,roots,seeds and leaves are used as herbal medicines and main food for us.

A large number of trees have already been destroyed. At some places, trees are being destroyed even today. As an effect of deforestation, there is a threat to the species of biodiversity.If everyone starts planting at least one tree, there will be millions of new trees within few years. Millions of people die every year because of poll.So i can say that if there are no trees in the earth, we can't live in this world and all the other living things. Therefore, I wish to mention that they are the friends of us.

The development of the radio began in 1893 with Nikolai Tesla’s demonstration of wireless radio communication in St. Louis, Missouri. Guglielmo Marconi, 25 April 1874 – 20 July 1937 was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer, known for his pioneering work on long-distance radio transmission Marconi’s first radio transmissions, in 1896, coded signals that were transmitted only about a mile (1,6 km) far. He is often credited as the inventor of radio, and he shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy".

 

In early period unable to transmit speech, and instead sent Morse code messages back and forth between ships and stations on the land.Gugleilmo  Marconi had started experiments of wire less communication.Dr.Lee De Forest broadcasted hi speech from radio in 31.Dec. 1906.In 1908 Dr.Forest broadcasted recoded music form the top of Eiffel. In 1897 wire less telegraph and signal co.ltd. was started.In 1919 when the Radio co operation  of America established at that time all rights of American  Marconi co. ltd . was purchased by  RCA.

A radio commercial  in the USA called a spot people in the business is a form of advertising via the medium of Radio . Airtime is purchased from a station or network in exchange for airing the commercial.The first radio commercial is credited to WEAF, New York on August 28, 1922 for the Queensbury real estate corporation. The ten minute live commercial was voiced by H.M. Blackwell, a representative of Queensbury.After radio became a mass medium during the 1920.  united states households with radio receivers , forms of financing radio and the nature of programming.

  When we look at the disadvantage of radio.Radio are close often used as background noise  and listeners may not always pay attention to the advertisements,Radio advertising is the lack of visual communication, Readers are able to  go back and read a newspaper advertisements for instance but they are unable to do this with radio advertisements. Listeners will often not even hear most radio commercials .  If they do not listen and hear them.they are typically less likely to patronize those particular business.Listeners generally dislike radio advertisements .

Russian Revolution

                 RUSSIAN REVOLUTION

Revolution are the great turning points of history.forcible overthrow of a government or social order ,in favor of  a new system. Russia is located in northeastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is the  largest country in the world with a total area of 17,075,200,sq,km.Russia shares  land boarders with fourteen neighboring countries.Russian capital city is Moscow.

When we look at the Russian revolution The Russian revolution was a political movement in Russia  in 1917. It overthrow of the Russian tsar system. The main leaders of the Russian revolution were Vladimir Lenin ,Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky.Russian revolution include two revolutions.

Immediate cause of the Russian revolution was February revolution. The February revolution began on march 8 according to our calendar, it was February on the Russian calendar.The revolution began when a number of workers decided to strike and  People began to riot. During that time Russia ruled by Nicholas 2.The other causes of Russian revolution are Autocratic rule of the czars,The social system,The rise of Nihilism, Influence of industrial revolution, World war 1,October revolution and Role of the “Vladimir Lenin”.

Autocratic rule of the czars is the one of the most important reason for Russian revolution. Czar Alexander II brought some reforms in Russia and became famous among all. But after him Czar Alexander III and Czar Nicholas II became despotic. During their reign the political organizations  Zemstvo and Duma had lost their political powers. And the other reason is The social system The Russian Society was divided into two classes before the Revolution. They were the rich and the poor. The Clergy, nobles and the rich belonged to the rich class. The peasants, laborers and serfs belonged to the poor class. These societies were imbalanced. And the other causes is The policy of russification,Czar Alexander III was not only a despotic ruler but he also followed the policy of Russification of all the systems. His son Czar Nicholas II also followed his policy. He declared ‘One Czar, One Church, One Russia. The rise of nihilism, The preachers of Nihilism came forward to destroy the prevailing rule, society and religious faith and Create a new world.


Influence of industrial revolution, The Industrial Revolution helped to flame the fire of Revolution in Russia.After the industrial revolution many factories were established in Russia with several ‘Labour Organisations’. And the othe one is World war 1, The out break of the first world war further helped set the country on the path of revolution.many people were against Russia, entering the war and many of their problems steadily grew worse. And the other important cause of Russian revolution is, October revolution and Role of the “Vladimir Lenin”.During this period there were 2 party (Bolshevik – red, Menshevik – white)The “Bolsheviks” came to power in Russia during the October revolution phase of the Russian revolution of 1917.Lenin founded the Russian “soviet federative socialist republic” which would later become the soviet union 1922.Nicholas 2 and his family were executed by Bolshevik forces.so these are reason for Russian revolution.

When we look at the effect of Russian revolution are Russia turning in to the communist country after Russia became known as the soviet union. After the socialism, Democracy, Internationalism and nationalism spread throughout the world, Abdication of Nicholas 2,Many people died and Improved working condition so these are the important about Russian revolution.

Importance of water

Water is one of the basic necessities of life.We can't live in the world without water. Water is not only important for human beings but also plays an important role to balance the entire ecosystem by various ways.Water is being used regularly for drinking, for washing clothes, for cooking, irrigation and transport among other important purposes that support our daily life without water life is unthinkable.

The problem is that people are wasting too much water all around the world in many ways such us One of the biggest sources of usable water is treated wastewater.After people brush their teeth, wash their vegetables or flush the toilet, most of that water is treated and sanitized.so some people misuse of water.

We must Stop the misuse of water.Manage the usage of water properly.Stop discharging pollutants without proper treatment.Take efforts in maintaining the quality of water.Stop wastage of water in our toilet.Promote rain-water harvesting and irrigation projects.So, we should not waste clean water and save it for future generations.
