SUMMERY OF IN THE GIFT OF THE MAGI

O.hentry was born on september 11,1862, in Greensbora north carolina. He was an America writer whose short stories are known for wit, wordplay and clever twist ending. He wrote nearly 600 stories about life in America for example from his stories are after twenty years, the green door, the punished room, the service of love and the gift of magi.

In the gift of magi by o.hentry we have the theme of poverty, frustration, connection, struggle, love, sacrifice, anxiety and commitment. Set in the new york at the turn of the twentieth century the story is narrated and from the begining of the reader realises that henry may be exploring the theme of poverty or hardship.

When we look at the story there are two main characters. They are Della and Jim. The new wedded couple living under the poverty line. The wife Della saves money little day to buy the chrismas gift for her husband without knowing Jim. At the same time Jim also decided to buy a gift for his wife suprisly but their monthly income is not enough to buy a gift for each other.

So Della had an idea, she offers to sell her hair. She has a long beautiful hair. She decided to sell her long hair to buy a gift. Then she decided until now he has been using an old leather strap.

She prepares dinner for the always, punctual Jim and sits down to await his arrival. The precious gift is tightly clutched in her hand. Hoping that her husband will still love her. Jim came and opened to door sees Della, he was shocked and suprised. When he saw Dell's hair he feels in lot and had full of pain in his heart, Jim cannot seem to be persvaded that her hair is really gone. She begs him for her sake and comfort him that how fast her hair grows.

But the tears come from his eyes because of her hair cut and the other thing is he has sold his watch and bought a set of combs for her lovely wife Della. Even as she has sold her hair to buy the watch chain for him.

So,we can understand from this story that they both sacrificed their greatest treasures for their divine love.
